Aleksandra Nowicka explores the thin, often invisible border between memory and reality of the 1990s. Her paintings are based on photos from various family albums. By reconstructing interiors from her childhood with a characteristic style and design, she refers to collective memory and the category of ‘Polishness’ transporting the viewer back in time. The artist questions the role of objects and photographs in the process of remembering and rediscovering one’s identity. Nowicka’s paintings invite everyone into her family’s everyday life and encourage viewers to return to their own roots.
